Process overview

Thermodegradation of EPDM rubber for oil modification. Viscosity Index Improvement (VII).

Controlled thermodegradation reduces the molecular weight of the individual EPDM chains, producing a material that can be used to modify the viscosity index of oils.

The process operates with a calibrated thermal profile and precise residence times: the goal is to degrade just enough to improve dilution performance in oil without destroying the polymer’s base properties. Each cycle is monitored and traced.

How we do it

Phases to produce thermodegraded EPDM.

Calibrated thermal process to thermodegrade the rubber and reduce its molecular weight.

  1. Thermal profile definition

The lab defines temperature, residence time and the process parameters specific to the inbound material.

    Output: Process recipe
  2. Controlled thermodegradation

Execution of the thermal process with continuous monitoring: the EPDM is thermodegraded and its molecular weight reduced.

  3. Pelletisation

The thermodegraded EPDM is pelletised, ready to be integrated into downstream compounds.

  4. Verification and release

Processability and base-property checks. Batch release with CoA and process declaration.

    Output: CoA + process sheet

ISO 9001 — Quality Management System

ISO 9001 certification is the operational foundation of every production: from raw-material intake to batch release, every step is tracked and documented. It is the minimum standard that the major chemical and petrochemical groups demand of their industrial partners — and the standard Green Plast guarantees, batch after batch.
